Landford Common Stud was
born when
Debbie Johnston retired
her Grand Prix Dressage
Mare Czarina. Debbie was
looking
for a replacement dressage
horse and had always coveted
Fleetwater Opposition after
first riding him for Louise
King. A deal was eventually
agreed to purchase him.
The last thing on Debbie
and John's mind was to have
a stud. however as Debbie
had always ridden mares
it was inevitable that Landford
Common Stud should evolve. |

The
stud consisted of Fleetwater Opposition,
Czarina and Welton Gazelle who had been
on loan to Jenny Loriston-Clark. These
three horses were the foundation to
the Opposition Dynasty. Debbie's philosophy
was to try and breed competition horses
that would excel in any discipline.
Landford Common Stud enjoyed good fortune
and success over the next ten years
and has bred Olympic, European and World
Equestrian Games team horses. International
Show Jumpers, Eventers, Dressage Horses,
Pony Club and riding horses as well.
...............
The Johnston's charmed
life came to a sudden end when sadly
Debbie lost her fight against cancer
in 2001. Until then the stud itself
concentrated mainly on Dressage, with
a short but very successful sortie into
International Show Jumping.
...............
John, Ben and Kirsty
Johnston continue to run the stud with
a concentration on Eventing, John's
main interest. Kirsty shows considerable
aptitude in this field. |
